The hidden jewel of Southwell lies approximately 14 miles North East of Nottingham. The origins of its name are not clear, but there a number of locations around the town which stake claim to being the original "well", most notably at GR708535 where a plaque also exists; in the Admiral Rodney public house.
Famous for our Cathedral and Minster said by many to be the best kept secret among the forty-two English cathedrals, it is a gem. The Cathedral and Parish Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary is popularly known, as it has been for centuries, as ‘Southwell Minster'. Well worth a visit!!
